For our first episode on a film, we sat down with Crank Sturgeon to watch and discuss Voice Crack’s “Kick That Habit” film, directed by Peter Lietchi. Our talk jumps back and forth from the film to the early days of Crank’s involvement in noise. Topics include his introduction to, and working with, Ron Lessard, travels to the UK and playing with Smell & Quim, and the importance of ’90s noise VHS.
We got excited and recorded another episode this week. It’s our first repeat artist as we discuss the seminal “King of Noise” album by Hijokaidan, which was recently reissued by Fantastique. Things get piercing and sharp as we celebrate this record. We also discuss the possibility of cooking a pizza on Greh’s speakers using the sounds Hijokaidan. We know who’s noise kingdom we’d want to be serfs in.

GX Jupitter-Larsen of the Haters came over and we listened to “Live in Khabarvosk, CCCP” which has two recordings taken from a Russian jazz festival in 1988. Discussion of the sound is dispensed with quickly and G.X. provides many anecdotes and pieces of Merzbow, Haters and noise culture history.
